What Causes Anxiety?

Anxiety is a completely normal feeling that we all experience.  It is extremely common to feel anxious in situations such as waiting for someone to arrive when they are late and haven’t gotten in touch to say where they are, or when going for a job interview.
However, it is not normal for most people feel overly anxious in everyday situations such as being with friends, travelling on public transport or even when going outside.

Why Do I Feel This Way?
Basically your mind and your body have started to over-react as if there are threats in everyday situations. If you are feeling stressed then it won’t take much to trigger anxiety. Events that cause even the smallest amount of stress such as misplacing your keys or a receipt can lead to you feeling anxious.
You may have always been a worrier, or emotions and feelings from a difficult time in the past may have been brought back by a recent event - or even by how you currently feel. Similarly; reoccurring thoughts of this difficult time may have triggered the anxiety you feel now.
Anxiety can be caused by bereavement, loss of a job, issues with money, difficulties at home and/or work – anything that causes upset.
It can also be caused by a combination of any of the above mentioned as they bring a great deal of stress.
